An eagle is born

Inspiration

Roadmap, then tracing on freezer paper

Turned under puzzle pieces

Background chosen

Sewn in place ( looks like I need to cut out the dark background or cover up those turned under bits)

Inktense pencils for the eye - still wet

Softening things up a bit

We have an eagle! Now to quilt :-)

I think just a meander for the background?

Any suggestions? I want the background to recede.

  1. Inktense pencils? I'm just learning about them. They really brought definition to the eye. I love your piece.

  4. Loved getting to watch the progress of your piece. My gut is that the background deserves more than a meander. I would quilt it intensely so that the eagle stands out in relief. I might even trapunto the eagle for a more 3D effect. Leah Day has over 400 wonderful FMQ motifs, many of them fillers, that she demos on her sight. I frequently turn there for inspiration.

  8. I love the background, but my eye keeps jumping to the bright parts to the detriment of the bird. I would do some fun McTavishing and darken the bright area with the quilting, but allow some sparkle to shine through. It is a great design. I love eagles and yours is beautifully done.

  10. I am standing in the woods about 100 yards from the building to catch Internet connection. But I had to tell you how beautiful this is! Did I say I was freezing too. Coat is in the car, keys are down hill in the rooms.........
